Many new teachers worry that asking too many questions will make them look inexperienced.
The truth?
The best teachers ask questions constantly.
No teacher walks into a new building knowing every procedure, expectation, or unwritten rule. Every school has its own way of doing things. Learning those systems quickly can make the difference between feeling overwhelmed and feeling supported.
Ask your administrator what success looks like in your building.
Ask your mentor which classroom routines matter most.
Ask your teammates what they wish they had known during their first year.
These conversations do more than provide information. They build relationships, create support systems, and help you grow faster as an educator.
Teaching was never meant to be a solo profession. The sooner you learn to lean on the people around you, the stronger you become.
In Survive and Thrive: A New Teacher's Guide to the K-2 Classroom, I share specific questions every new teacher should ask during those critical first weeks of school.
