One more month

We are getting into the home stretch!  As we are preparing for the last month, we decided to try something just a little different for our reading log.

We felt that it would get kids reading a variety of books and reinforce character, setting, fiction, nonfiction that we have studied throughout the year.  We also know that in our town kids are busy during the month of May with baseball, soccer, and other community happenings.  This way they don't abandon the reading log altogether (which in the past they usually do.)
There is so much to do this month!  Hope your home stretch is going well!

Earth Day fun!

It has been a busy week and weekend!  I took a little break to do get some planning done for the week,  I can't believe we only have 6 weeks left of school!  This week our theme is Earth Day

I made a coupe of freebies to go with this theme!  The first is a poster that students can make to remind them to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle at home.  The second is a double digit practice freebie!

We also wanted an Earth Day book for our student during our reading block.  I wrote this mini-book a few years ago for my son's first grade class and have used it ever since!

Our weather has been so nice these past couple of weeks!  Spring Fever is hitting us hard!  We are going to use this Write the Room game to get up and moving and stay engaged in our learning!

Hope you have a fun week with your students!
Thanks for stopping in!

Saturdays

What would we do without Saturdays?  I love my weekends, not because I don't like going to work.  I love my job.  But weekends for me are precious hours that I can use to catch up or get ahead.  I have  about 12 free minutes during the week (I know compared to some of you that is a lot, especially if you have any kids under 2!)  and I try to use my weekends so I can make sure I am able to spend time during the week helping with homework, listening to reading, and maybe even a conversation with my husband.  Today I spent grocery shopping, baking, prepping food, and spending some quality time with the kiddos.  I love baking and cooking with my kids!  We get some fun, happy memories and some meals too!
Today we made enough muffins and cut enough fruit for breakfasts and lunches for the week.  We also made supper for tonight, we prepped meat, cut veggies, and planned another couple of meals.  My hubs gets home first and is great at throwing food into the oven or onto the grill, but he lacks in the actually mixing things up department!  LOL!

My kids won't eat any kind of fruits or vegetables that are cooked with the exception of applesauce, so I cut up tons of fruits and veggies every week.  I stick it in containers in the fridge and they "sneak" it for snacks!  LOL #theythinkidontknow

I have been looking through my files and have decided to pull up a few of the things I have made through the year for my classroom.  First thing "How to..."  I have used this a few times through the year.

You can download a copy here.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Educating with Heart

Well it took a while, but I have decided to go all in and get going.  I have been a blogger since 2013, but I have decided to rebrand and be Educated with Heart.  I bought my domains, got myself on a blog design wait list, and am working on some fun content that will be beneficial to you and your students.

Just as an intro again:  I am Jannie.  I have been teaching in first grade for about 17 years.  I have 2 adorable children that I love more than life!  My son is in 3rd grade and my daughter is in Kindergarten.  I work hard daily to provide a classroom that I would want one of them to be in. I love hands-on learning and my room is NEVER quiet.  We work hard, play hard, and learn tons!  I can't imagine any job more fun or rewarding than being a teacher!

One last thought:

We are starting to get to the end of our year and as excited as I am to spend time with my own kids, I know some of my students are not so excited!  I teach in a very high poverty area and some of my students get their only love, acceptance, and belonging from our classrooms.  So no countdown for me! I would have some miserable students with some behavior issues!  I saw this idea the other day and thought it was such an important reminder for me because as much as I will miss them, I know they will miss school even more.

Just a thought!

Here's a little freebie I made to help my son practice his skip counting!

You can go to my brand new Teachers Pay Teachers Store to download them for free!

Bear with the blog and thumbnails!  I am ordering my new blog design as soon as I can figure out what I want!  Such choices!

My first post!

It's time for something new and blogging is it!  I have been following some incredible, educator bloggers for years and now I am joining the fun!  I've spent the last fifteen years as an elementary teacher.  I love to share what I make with my fellow teachers! Lately, I have been obsessing over alligning my classroom to the Common Core.  I have a first grade son and a preschool daughter that I create for as well as my students.  Thanks for joining me on this awesome journey!
