Parent Volunteers

We have been so lucky this year with some awesome volunteers!  I am sure that without their help we would not have accomplished as much as we did.   They pulled students and played games, did flash cards, and listened to kids read.  I love how sweetly they work with my students and happily take just one more student even when their time is up for the day.  I want to show them how much I truly appreciate all that they do for us!  I found these reusable water bottles on clearance last year at JoAnn's and knew they would make great gifts!  I love that you can add ice to them!  Perfect for summer!  I added these gift tags

I am excited to have another important thing ready to go for the end of the year!
I can't wait to give these cute gifts!

You can follow this and other Volunteer Gift ideas on my End of the School Year Pinterest Board!

Memorial Day

Looking for some Memorial Day activities?  I have been planning out my last (yay!) week of school and wanted to come up with a good lesson to tell about Memorial Day.

I found a really good video on you-tube by Social Studies Weekly.

We are going to do a little writing after about what we have learned!

And we will be finishing up with my Memorial Day book Freebie from my TpT store!

I can't believe we are already planning the last week!  So much to do!!!!
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!

Last Day Blues

It seems only fitting that if we start our year with

that we should end our year with

I love how both stories show that teachers have similar feelings as their students on these special days!  I know that I am starting to get the end of the year blues and from the love notes I have been getting, I know my students are feeling it too!

We have 7 more days!  Wow!  I made up a little writing activity to follow up the book next week.

May fun!

I have been working for MONTHS to get some tablets for my classroom.  Finally all of my begging hard work paid we are off!  Yesterday I had 9 iPad mini's delivered to my classroom!   I share them with my team of 2 other teachers, but we are good at sharing!

I spent the afternoon enjoying the breeze through my open windows downloading and prepping them to use on Monday!  We have less than 20 days left, so I don't want to waste any time!

I made some quick backgrounds to keep track of them all.  We are color coded in our team, so that is why I chose the colors I did. :)  Feel free to right click, and save them for yourselves.

I am on the hunt for some really good iPad apps!

Feel free to look through my PINTERST board to see what I find!

Hope you are out enjoying this beautiful weather!!!

One more month

We are getting into the home stretch!  As we are preparing for the last month, we decided to try something just a little different for our reading log.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8g6oWKcZiB_blNkRGJZcEVhdkU/view?usp=sharing

We felt that it would get kids reading a variety of books and reinforce character, setting, fiction, nonfiction that we have studied throughout the year.  We also know that in our town kids are busy during the month of May with baseball, soccer, and other community happenings.  This way they don't abandon the reading log altogether (which in the past they usually do.)
There is so much to do this month!  Hope your home stretch is going well!

Earth Day fun!

It has been a busy week and weekend!  I took a little break to do get some planning done for the week,  I can't believe we only have 6 weeks left of school!  This week our theme is Earth Day

I made a coupe of freebies to go with this theme!  The first is a poster that students can make to remind them to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle at home.  The second is a double digit practice freebie!

We also wanted an Earth Day book for our student during our reading block.  I wrote this mini-book a few years ago for my son's first grade class and have used it ever since!

Our weather has been so nice these past couple of weeks!  Spring Fever is hitting us hard!  We are going to use this Write the Room game to get up and moving and stay engaged in our learning!

Hope you have a fun week with your students!
Thanks for stopping in!
